Mercedes O580-15 RHD #B 88 SNP

14 august 2008 - Constanţa, Gara Constanţa. Simpa Trans to jeden z lepiej wyposazonych przewoźników. Takie mesie dwu- i trzyosiowe kilka razy dziennie łączą Mangalię, Konstancę i Bukareszt. W tle nowa szklana część dworca kolejowego w Konstancy.

МАЗ 103065 #B 4344

14 august 2008 - Constanţa, Gara Constanţa. Jeszcze jeden MAZ powered by Mercedes, tym razem mega wyps, na dawnej liniii tramwajowej 100.

МАЗ 103065 #B 3362

МАЗ 103041 #CT 07 WTP

Tu kolejny pojazd Metropolitan przed kursem do Mangalii przez miejscowości nadmorskie o ciekawych nazwach: Eforie Nord, Eforie Sud, Costineşti, Olimp, Neptun, Jupiter, Aurora i Saturn.

Volvo B7L / Ayats Bravo I Urbis #B 59 FSW

Scania K113 / Ghabbour #CT 81 MET

14 august 2008 - Constanţa, Bulevardul 1 Mai, plac przed dworcem kolejowy.

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania - Comtext. Near the tramway depot, Line 101 looped along a single track in quiet side streets to return to the city centre. Goodbye to the Constanta trams………

Tatra KT4D #178

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania - Strada Celulozei. Does anyone fancy some nice fresh milk? I certainly didn’t – just look at all the really disgusting filth and litter where the cow is grazing – yuk! Maybe you can spot a second cow on the other side of the street. This is just outside the RATC bus depot, but looks more like India than a Western country.

Tatra KT4D #190

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania - Strada Zorelelor. To reach Faleza Nord, the trams ran up this narrow residential street from the city centre.

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania - Strada Zorelelor, Delfinariu. Today, a final look at the Constanta tramways. Here, ex-Berlin Tatra car 190 passes the Grotty Pizza Restaurant.

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – Strada Celulozei. Car 147 pauses at the tramway depot entrance. Although these trams weren’t built until the mid-1980s, they are a rather basic design.

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – depou tramvaie/zajezdnia/depot. Two of the ex-Berlin KT4D trams outside the depot. These Tatra cars normally operated on the cross-town Line 102, whereas the locally-built V3A trams were confined to the Line 101 Depot – Railway Station route.

Tatra KT4D #190

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – Strada Celulozei. Quality transport in Constanza – although a ride on the donkey cart is probably just as comfortable as the lurching, rattling tram seen disappearing into the bushes at the Line 102 turning loop. It’s probably quicker, too.

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – Strada Celulozei. The fact that this is called Cellulose Street will tell you much about the nature of the area where the Constanta tramway depot was situated – very picturesque! All trams on the last two operating routes came to this desolate spot.

ITB V3A #165

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – Strada Celulozei. I think it quite important to record as much as possible of the Constanta tramway system, which has now gone forever. V3A car 165 is seen here nearing the depot on Line 101, closely followed by a Tatra KT4D on Line 102. These were the last lines in operation.

ITB V3A #159

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – depou tramvaie/zajezdnia/depot. A general view of some of the Constanta trams lined up in the depot yard. Constanta didn’t seem to have any shortage of cars, although many were in quite poor condition. After the November closure, it was intended that this area would be cleared and that the tram sheds will become a bus repair facility.

Tatra KT4D #190

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – depou/zajezdnia petla/depot. Line 102 turned outside the depot entrance to travel back through the city.

ITB V3A #157

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – Faleza Nord. A typical Romanian tramscape at the terminus of Line 102. The trams have all gone, of course, and this line is now a bus. Note the unprotected inspection pit – if you fall down it, that’s your problem – this is the normal Romanian approach to safety! I expect the hole is still there, even though the trams are gone…..

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – Bulevard. As many of you will know, McDonalds in Romania bought some old Frankfurt/Main Deuwags to convert into childrens’ rooms. Unfortunately, all identification numbers have been removed from these trams. This is the Constanta McTram – I’m lovin’ it.

ITB 1VU #100

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – depou tramvaie/zajeznia/depot. A snowbroom would be very useful in UK at the moment (we have none)! The Constanta system closed down in November, so I wonder what has happened to their smart little works tram? Maybe sold to another Romanian system – I should have brought it home with me as excess baggage! It looked in better condition than most of their passenger trams.

МАЗ 103065 #B 3339

7 november 2008 - Konstanca, plac przed dworcem kolejowym.

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – depot/zajezdnia. IN LASTING MEMORY. Trams returned to the Constanta tram depot for the last time on 21 November and the system has now closed.

Rocar 212E #622

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – A DAC trolleybus runs along a typical non-descript street near the depot on Line 48.

Rocar 212E #620

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – trolleybus depot, Sector 2. Another scruffy DAC. Now the Constanta trams have gone, their trolleybuses might be threatened. There are only about twenty vehicles in the entire fleet, so probably too small to be economic.

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – trolleybus depot, Sector 2. Rocar de Simon 632 leads a row of buses waiting for their next assignment. Although the depot has a bus washer, they don’t seem to use it very often…...

МАЗ 103041 #CT 07WTY

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – trolleybus depot, Sector 2. An offside view – the registration number presumably corresponds to the date it was registered (so probably this was also the date of manufacture).

МАЗ 103041 #CT 07WTY

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – trolleybus depot, Sector 2. Line 100 was a tram line until recently, but was converted to bus operation with these Belarussian low-floor buses. Romanian buses often don’t have fleet numbers like the buses and trolleybuses, so are just identified by their registration plate.

Rocar 212E #624

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – trolleybus depot, Sector 2. The basic DAC isn’t very sexy, but works OK.

Rocar 412E #627

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – trolleybus depot, Sector 2. A Rocar de Simon trolleybus. These were a joint venture between the two companies, just before Rocar closed down, and were quite a nice bus. These and the earlier DAC design are the standard vehicles in Constanta, although several DACs have been scrapped.

Rocar 112E #406

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – trolleybus depot, Sector 2. The rear of trolleybus 406 reveals why it isn’t used for passengers! It’s only HALF a bus and is now the wire-greasing vehicle.

Rocar 112E #406

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – trolleybus depot, Sector 2. This old DAC trolleybus is no longer used for passenger service – look round the back and you’ll see why……..

Rocar 212E #624

7 november 2008 - Konstanca, CFR Palas. PS. Widoczna na zdjęciu "kreślona" 48 to skrócona wersja normalnej 48.

Tatra KT4D #190

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – Strada Celulozei. Tatra 190 passing the tramway depot entrance – you can see that the track is not very good. When the Constanta system finally closes (scheduled for 11 October 2008, but evidently still running into November), there is a possibility that Cluj-Napoca might buy some of these KT4-Ds to supplement their fleet of similar cars.

Tatra KT4D #180

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – Eliberarii. Ex-Berlin KT4-D 180 on Line 102 fights its way across a wide and busy junction where there is no traffic control whatsoever. Only the size and weight of the tram will persuade Romanian car drivers to give way! The abandoned track in the foreground is part of a route that was built, but never opened.

ITB V3A #157

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – Faleza Nord. Car 157 standing at the terminus of Line 102, which overlooks the Black Sea. The Constanta track is very worn and looks (and feels) as though it dates from the opening of the tramway in 1984. The need to completely replace both trams and trackwork is probably the main reason for closure.

ITB V3A #166

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania – Gara CFR. Electroputere-built V3A car 166 waits at the railway station to form the next Line 101 departure. These cars are three-section, double-articulated and run on four bogies. Very similar cars still operate in Bucuresti.

28 september 2008 - Constanta, Romania - Pan Dobrogea. The first pictures on Phototrans of the Constanta tramway. Sadly, these may also be the last, as the remaining two routes are due to close any day now – all other lines have already been abandoned. The system uses a mixture of Romanian V3A Type articulated trams, supplied new for the opening of the system in 1984, and second-hand Tatra KT4-Ds from Berlin. V3A car 147 on Line 101 is shown here near the tramway depot.
